Our Gospel for Dec 18. The Birth of Jesus.

Mt 1:18-25

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about.
When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph,
but before they lived together,
she was found with child through the Holy Spirit.
Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man,
yet unwilling to expose her to shame,
decided to divorce her quietly.
Such was his intention when, behold,
the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said,
“Joseph, son of David,
do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home.
For it is through the Holy Spirit
that this child has been conceived in her.
She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus,
because he will save his people from their sins.”
All this took place to fulfill
what the Lord had said through the prophet:

Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son,
and they shall name him Emmanuel,

which means “God is with us.”
When Joseph awoke,
he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him
and took his wife into his home.
He had no relations with her until she bore a son,
and he named him Jesus.

Ipinanganak si Jesus

Mateo 1:18-25

There was a seminarian who left the priesthood. Fearing that his dad would get mad at him, he requested a priest to accompany him and explain everything to his father about his decision to leave the seminary.

When they arrived home, they were greeted by his dad and the priest explained the situation right away.

By the way his dad is also a seminarian who left the priesthood and raised a family.

Then the father said, why did you left the priesthood son? What about my dream to have a son priest?

The son said, "it is also my dream to have a son priest, dad."

The focus of our Gospel for today is how St. Joseph handled the situation of marrying a woman who is carrying an unborn child through the holy spirit.

During those times, if an unmarried woman was found pregnant, she is doomed to die by stoning. And since St Joseph is a righteous man, he decided to divorce her quietly.

But when the lord appeared to St Joseph in a dream, he complied and took Mary into his home.

This is the highlight of St. Josephs sacrifice until the birth of Jesus.

Although St Joseph knows that he is not the real father of Jesus, he faithfully submitted to the will of God by faith and nothing else.

To father a child we believe is not our own is more than just a sacrifice. It is love and faith combined.

God bless all father's out there willing to sacrifice everything for their children.

Amen!
