Our Gospel for Dec 16. Becoming Prophetic Witnesses.

John 5:33-36

Jesus said to the Jews:

"You sent emissaries to John, and he testified to the truth.

I do not accept testimony from a human being, but I say this so that you may be saved.

He was a burning and shining lamp, and for a while you were content to rejoice in his light.

But I have testimony greater than John's. The works that the Father gave me to accomplish, these works that I perform testify on my behalf that the Father has sent me."

Mga Patotoo Patungkol kay Jesus.

Juan 5:33-36

My wife and I had the chance to attend the 1st dawn mass today at the St Peter Parish at 4 AM.

There was a smell of Puto Bungbong and Bibingka (Rice cake with red eggs and butter topped with grated coconut) in the air being sold by peddlers around the church vicinity.

As usual, the church is jam-packed with people and some content themselves to stay on top of the overpass, located near the church (because they could not get inside),to hear mass.

It was the first day of the Simbang Gabi or what every Filipino Catholics looks forward to just before the Christmas Day.

Some devotees believes that when they accomplished the nine days dawn masses, their petitions will be answered.

Today's gospel challenge is for every one of us to become "witnesses' for Christ himself. Let us spread the good news to everyone not just by words but by actions.

It is good to be pitiful to someone who is in need but it is always best to do something to help that person in any way you can. Faith without action is dead.

A man was walking along and fell into a deep hole that he could not get out. So he began to shout very loudly for help. A learned professor came along and found him. He looked down into the hole and lectured the unfortunate man: "Why were you so foolish as to fall down there in the first place? You should be more careful. If you ever get out again, watch your step."
And with that he took off.

Then a holy monk came along. He looked down into the hole and told the man, "I'll try to reach down as far as I can, and reach up as far as you can. If I can grab your hand, I'll pull you out."
So they tried but it did not work. The hole was too deep. So the monk said he was sorry and left the man to his fate.

Now Christ comes along. He sees the man's problem and without asking him any questions, he just jumps down into the hole. Then he lets the man climb unto his shoulders and even unto his outstretched arms...and gets the man out.

This is known as personal involvement.

How about you? How far is your personal involvement?

Lord God, teach us how to discern someone in need and help them in any way we can, not only during this Christmas season but everyday of our lives.

God bless you all!
