November 2. The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls)

John 6:37-40

Jesus said to the crowds:
“Everything that the Father gives me will come to me,
and I will not reject anyone who comes to me,
because I came down from heaven not to do my own will
but the will of the one who sent me.
And this is the will of the one who sent me,
that I should not lose anything of what he gave me,
but that I should raise it on the last day.
For this is the will of my Father,
that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him
may have eternal life,
and I shall raise him on the last day.”

Juan 6:37-40

November 2nd is the day to commemorate our dearly departed and I would like to share with you the reflection of Fr. Mon at the mass service my wife and I attended yesterday.

He said that there are 4 types of
Death: The first one is the Physical Death, where our physical body and spirit
separate. No one can control this and we are all going to die anyway.
The second one is Relational Death, where we consider our relationship with our friend, family member or even spouse
already dead because of unresolved problems on money(long standing debts, inheritance), or broken marriages to name a few. The third one is the Emotional Death, where some just sit around all day watching TV and hoping that the day will pass like any other boring day. In other words walang kabuhay buhay (No life at all). Just like the saying "He died at the age of 40 but he was buried at the age of 70. Some people do not appreciate life
at all!
The 4th one is the Spiritual Death. These happens to people who do not have any relationship at all with God and they continue to commit sin after sin. God for
them is just a decoration in their house, and does not play a major role in the family, relationship and at work.

What about us? Are we dead Spiritually? Do we continue to commit sin after sin and then go to confession and ask forgiveness
and then sin again? How about any
Relational Death with our siblings, friends, family or spouses? Do we treat our relationship with them as already dead because of misunderstanding or other issues we cannot forget?

Or how about Emotional Death? Do we just let the day pass by just like that? Are we not suppose to do something about our life to make it worthwhile or do something good to other people to make the world a better place to live in?

We cannot control our Physical Death but for some people dying is the only solutions to their problems and this is becoming a growing concern.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) reported that:
* In the last 45 years suicide rates have increased by 60% worldwide. Suicide is now among the three leading causes of death among those aged 15-44 (male and female).
*Suicide attempts are up to 20 times more frequent than completed suicides.
*Youth suicide is increasing at the greatest rate.

Let us pray for our brothers and sisters, (family members and friends) who are experiencing these "Death Syndromes" to be able to realize and be grateful that no matter how low our life situation may "seem to be", we should always Hope that our Loving God will never forsake us and that everything shall come to pass.

Let us Thank God for the Gift of Life and whatever Challenges or Trials we face in life is because we are being prepared for a bigger responsibility ahead of us. Just like the "Diamonds, without pressure it would not exist."

Thank you Fr Mon for the very enlightening reflection we heard from you last night.

May God continue to bless us all more than we can ever imagine!
