Our Gospel for Dec 30. Perseverance is the Key to a Good Prayer Life.

Luke 2:36-40

There was a prophetess, Anna,
the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher.
She was advanced in years,
having lived seven years with her husband after her marriage,
and then as a widow until she was eighty-four.
She never left the temple,
but worshiped night and day with fasting and prayer.
And coming forward at that very time,
she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child
to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem.

When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions
of the law of the Lord,
they returned to Galilee,
to their own town of Nazareth.
The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom;
and the favor of God was upon him.

Matiyagang Pananalangin.

Lucas 2:36-40

In Ephesians 6:10-18, Paul gives us these pointers for an effective prayer. A prayer that works.

"Finally, draw your strength from the Lord and from his mighty power.

Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil. For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens.

Therefore, put on the armor of God, that you may be able to resist on the evil day and, having done everything, to hold your ground.

So stand fast with your loins girded in truth, clothed with righteousness as a breastplate, and your feet shod in readiness for the gospel of peace.

In all circumstances, hold faith as a shield, to quench all (the) flaming arrows of the evil one.

And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

With all prayer and supplication, pray at every opportunity in the Spirit.

I encourage you: PRAY. Pray through the Scriptures, pray in praise to God, thanking him, recalling his great deeds as recorded in the Bible and in church history -- and as you pray you will be changed. Pray for us so we will be empowered and changed. Pray for your children, your parents, your friends, your enemies, your neighbors, your relatives, your co workers, your spouses, think of yourself as the general who has access to reinforcements to send to whoever needs them. Be on the alert! Know who needs help, and do what is most effective: Pray.

God bless you and Have a Happy and Blessed New Year to all!
