Our Gospel for Oct 22. Signs of the Times.

Luke 12:54-59

Signs of the Times.

Jesus said to the crowds,
“When you see a cloud rising in the west
you say immediately that it is going to rain–and so it does;
and when you notice that the wind is blowing from the south
you say that it is going to be hot–and so it is.
You hypocrites!
You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky;
why do you not know how to interpret the present time?

“Why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?
If you are to go with your opponent before a magistrate,
make an effort to settle the matter on the way;
otherwise your opponent will turn you over to the judge,
and the judge hand you over to the constable,
and the constable throw you into prison.
I say to you, you will not be released
until you have paid the last penny.”

Lucas 12:54-59

My reflection to follow.

God bless!

I had the opportunity to visit Quiapo church this afternoon with my wife Lenny.

There was a constant drizzle since this morning but fortunately for us, the rain poured down heavily when we were already inside the church. There was a gush of cold windy air with the smell of rainshower which make me shiver and say a sigh of relief thanking God for this cold comfort, which is not usual in Quiapo church.

The reflection of the priest on today's Gospel made it more worth it because,I believe, he hit the bulls eye of the message of the Gospel.

He said that we should be very observant of the "Signs of the Times" around us and should help one another to alleviate the ill effects of these signs.

Example of such Signs of the Times are as follows: 1.Abortion is now legalized in some countries today and there was a clamor to make it also legal here in the Philippines. 2.Same sex marriage is also another sign that we should look into. 3.Divorce is also being proposed to become legalized in our country. 4. Dispute of family members over property and money. 5. Love of material wealth over spiritual wealth and many many more.

The message of our Gospel today challenges us to take a closer look at our inner family circle. How are we doing when it comes to our relationship with our children. How do we rate our relationship with our parents, our spouses, our Uncles and Aunties, our cousins, our nephews and nieces.

Let's ask ourselves how do they look up to me as a parent, as a son or a daughter, a cousin, etc.?

I believe this is a wake up call to once and for all fix our misunderstandings, indifferences, hatred, anger, pain and let's start with our own family circle. After all we have to start fixing our own problems first before we can fix other peoples problems.

Let's pray to God to learn to forgive and forget and let's start with a clean slate. Let bygones be bygones.

God bless you all more than you can ever imagine.
