Our Gospel for Oct 14. The Denunciation of the Pharisees Part 3.

Lk 11:47-54

The Lord said:
“Woe to you who build the memorials of the prophets
whom your fathers killed.
Consequently, you bear witness and give consent
to the deeds of your ancestors,
for they killed them and you do the building.
Therefore, the wisdom of God said,
‘I will send to them prophets and Apostles;
some of them they will kill and persecute’
in order that this generation might be charged
with the blood of all the prophets
shed since the foundation of the world,
from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah
who died between the altar and the temple building.
Yes, I tell you, this generation will be charged with their blood!
Woe to you, scholars of the law!
You have taken away the key of knowledge.
You yourselves did not enter and you stopped those trying to enter.”
When Jesus left, the scribes and Pharisees
began to act with hostility toward him
and to interrogate him about many things,
for they were plotting to catch him at something he might say.

People who are hungry for power will do everything they can to sustain or maintain their status even to the extent of murdering and killing their rivals or presumed enemies. We have heard news stories of political battles resulting in massacre of innocent victims and loss of lives just to stay in power.

A lot of people are "Power hungry." In private and Govt offices, at schools, associations, religious community, churches and even in a small barangay, there will always be people, who are fighting for power just to get the upper hand. Most of us wants to be leaders and very few wants to be a followers.

Everyone wants to be competitive at the expense of others. Everyone wants to win, be the best they can be.

A lot of these things push our pressure buttons that is why a very competitive person suffers "burn out" more than the average guy.

But as always, no matter how big shots we are, we can always find bigger big shots around, and no matter how low our status in life may be, there will always be people with much lower status than us.

So why worry? The best thing we can do in life is to focus our attention on what we have and be grateful about it. Count your blessings and thank God everyday.

God bless us all more than we can ever imagine!
