Anointing the feet of Jesus. Our Gospel for April 18, 2011

John 12:1-11

Six days before Passover Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.
They gave a dinner for him there, and Martha served,
while Lazarus was one of those reclining at table with him.
Mary took a liter of costly perfumed oil made from genuine aromatic nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and dried them with her hair; the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.  Then Judas the Iscariot, one of his disciples, and the one who would betray him, said,
“Why was this oil not sold for three hundred days’ wages
and given to the poor?” He said this not because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief and held the money bag and used to steal the contributions. So Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Let her keep this for the day of my burial.
You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.”

The large crowd of the Jews found out that he was there and came, not only because of him, but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. And the chief priests plotted to kill Lazarus too, because many of the Jews were turning away and believing in Jesus because of him.

Pinahiran ni Maria ng Langis ang paa ni Jesus.

Juan 12:1-11

 ¹Anim na araw bago ang Paglagpas, si Jesus ay pumunta sa Betania. Ito ang kinaroonan ni Lazaro na namatay na kaniyang ibinangon mula sa mga patay. ²Sila ay naghanda roon ng hapunan para sa kaniya. Si Marta ay naglingkod. Ngunit si Lazaro ay isa sa mga nakaupong kasalo niya sa mesa. ³Si Maria ay kumuha ng isang librang purong nardo. Ito ay mamahaling pamahid. Ipinahid niya ito sa mga paa ni Jesus at pinunasan niya ng kaniyang buhok at ang bahay ay napuno ng halimuyak ng pamahid.

   
 ⁴Si Judas na taga-Keriot, na anak ni Simon ay isa sa kaniyang mga alagad. Siya ang magkakanulo kay Jesus. Sinabi nga niya: ⁵Bakit hindi ipinagbili ang pamahid na ito sa halagang tatlong daang denaryo at ibinigay sa mga dukha? ⁶Ito ay sinabi hindi dahil siya ay nagmamalasakit sa mga dukha kundi dahil siya ay isang magnanakaw. Nasa kaniya rin ang supot ng salapi at kinukupit niya ang inilalagay rito.

   
 ⁷Sinabi nga ni Jesus: Hayaan ninyo si Maria. Inilalaan niya iyon para sa araw ng aking libing. ⁸Ito ay sapagkat ang mga dukha ay lagi ninyong kasama ngunit ako ay hindi ninyo makakasamang lagi.

   
 ⁹Maraming mga Judio ang nakakaalam na siya ay naroon. Sila ay pumunta hindi lamang dahil kay Jesus. Sila ay pumunta upang makita rin si Lazaro na ibinangon ni Jesus mula sa mga patay. ¹⁰Nagsanggunian ang mga pinunong-saserdote upang patayin din si Lazaro. ¹¹Ito ay sapagkat maraming mga Judio ang lumayo at sumampalataya kay Jesus dahil sa nangyari kay Lazaro.
