Our Gospel for January 29. The Calming of a Storm at Sea.

Mark 4:35-41

On that day, as evening drew on, Jesus said to his disciples:
“Let us cross to the other side.”
Leaving the crowd, they took Jesus with them in the boat just as he was.
And other boats were with him.
A violent squall came up and waves were breaking over the boat,so that it was already filling up.Jesus was in the stern, asleep on a cushion. They woke him and said to him,“Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”He woke up,rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Quiet! Be still!”The wind ceased and there was great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you terrified?Do you not yet have faith?”
They were filled with great awe and said to one another,
“Who then is this whom even wind and sea obey?”

Pinatigil ni Jesus ang Bagyo.

Marcos 4:35-41

Genuine faith requires memory.
And sad to say in the midst of turmoil they have forgotten everything and so only the waves and the wind threatening them. They panicked and their little faith evaporated.

Does memory always fade? No.
Abraham the one we call the father of faith, had such great faith because it is rooted in sturdy memory trusting God for all his goodness in the past even up to the point of sacrificing his own son Isaac. Abraham always trusted God that he believed that God will not hurt the one he loves.

Let's sharpen our memory of God's goodness and always trust in him no matter what turmoil or trials we are facing in our life.

Memory of God's goodness is the foundation of genuine faith.

God bless us all forever!

yes, I agree, our positive recollections and memories of the past events in our experiences, the great Providences of the Lord in our life, should strengthen us when we face again a windy and stormy days in our life that shakes our confidence and faith. Our minds should always try to retrieve the goodness and victories we have faced before in order to remind us that God is always with us, no matter what happen, even if we are disappointed and overwhelmed at times.
