Our Gospel for January 16. The Liturgical Feast for the Sto. Nino.

The Greatest in the Kingdom.

Mt18:1-5,10

At that time the disciples approached Jesus and said, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"

He called a child over, placed it in their midst,
and said, "Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.

"See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.

Sino ang Pinakadakila?

Mateo 18:1-5,10

Beyond history, Filipino and Hispanic Catholics continue to nurture a rich cultural folk devotion to the child Jesus.

The Vatican has recognized this uniqueness of devotion among Filipinos such that it issued an indult allowing the Filipino Church to celebrate the third Sunday of January as a liturgical feast for the "Sto. Nino."

Today's gospel reminds us the "goodness" we can see in a child. Aside from being meek, humble and obedient, a child has a clean heart and a clear eyes, unblemished from the sins of the world.

Because of this, Jesus said that unless we turn and become like children, we will not enter the Kingdom of heaven.

In the celebration of the feast of the child Jesus, it is a challenge for us to possess the purity of heart like a child.

Let's examine ourselves: Do we keep our hearts and minds clean like a child?

In what ways can we keep our hearts and minds clean despite the realities of life?

Are we ready to be meek, humble and obedient like a child to receive the blessings from above?

Let's ask Jesus to always remind us to look at a little child as an example of purity, innocence and goodness!

God bless you all! Viva Sto.Nino!
