Sayings about the Holy Spirit. Our Gospel for Oct 16, Saturday.

Luke 12: 8-12

Jesus said to his disciples:
 “I tell you,
everyone who acknowledges me before others
the Son of Man will acknowledge before the angels of God.
But whoever denies me before others
will be denied before the angels of God.
“Everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven,
but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit
will not be forgiven.
When they take you before synagogues and before rulers and authorities,
do not worry about how or what your defense will be
or about what you are to say.
For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that moment what you should say.”

Lucas 12: 8-12

What struck me in our Gospel today is how the Holy Spirit functions in our daily life.

The risen Lord has given the Holy Spirit to us (Jn 20, 19-23) but the problem is that we do not receive Him in our hearts. He offers to us the Advocate, the Paraclete, the Comforter, but we do not usually avail ourselves of these necessary added power that we need in our lives. How much do we really rely on the Spirit to lead and strengthen us?

All too often, we rely on our own power, strength and wisdom. Let the Holy Spirit take over, and you will discover new life, new strength, new vigor. - Fr. Jerry Orbos, SVD - Moments, cycle b

The Bible tells us that all the characteristics of God apparent in the Father and the Son are equally apparent in the Holy Spirit.

Although the Holy Spirit has all the
characteristics of God, He has specific roles and functions in our lives. In John 16:13, we see the Spirit of Truth as our guide: “But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will
speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming."

That's why Jesus said do not worry for the Holy Spirit will teach you what you should say.

In 1 Corinthians 3:16, we see that the
Holy Spirit lives inside us: “Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?"

In Acts 1:8, we understand where our
power comes from: “But you will receive power when the holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

In Romans 8:26, we learn that the Holy
Spirit is there for us in times of
weakness and prayer: “In the same way,
the Spirit too comes to the aid of our
weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit itself intercedes for us."

In Hebrews 9:14, we see that the Holy
Spirit is eternal. In Psalm 139, we see that the Holy Spirit is everywhere.

Come Holy Spirit I need you! Come Holy Spirit I pray, Come with your strength and your power , come in your own special way!

God bless us all through the power of the Holy Spirit.
